The Society’s Invitation to Mission (SIM) programme continues to provide a valuable opportunity for people to experience missionary life and service in an overseas context, writes Fr Padraig O’Donovan.
We were pleased to welcome a new participant to the programme, Dan Rooks, who recently completed a five-month orientation and preparation period with the Columbans.
During this time, Dan engaged in formation, reflection and practical preparation to help him make the most of his missionary experience abroad.
As a community, we gathered on 6th June 2026 to celebrate Dan’s ‘Mission Sending’ ceremony. It was a joyful occasion, giving us an opportunity to pray for him and offer our support as he prepared to embark on this important step in his missionary journey.

The following day, 7th June, Dan departed for Chile, where he is participating in an eight-week SIM placement. He has already communicated that he is enjoying Chile.

We pray that the SIM programme will continue to inspire young people to engage with the missionary dimension of the Church.
