Columban Missionary Fr Shay Cullen has launched a new book, titled ‘Justice and Truth Win Freedom’, which explores his lifelong fight for justice.

It is a powerful story of one man’s life-long fight for justice and freedom for thousands of sexually abused and trafficked women and children in the Philippine sex trade.
Fr Shay has been a missionary in the Philippines since 1969. He has challenged politicians, the sex mafia, US military bases, and chided erring clergy, all to protect and defend the vulnerable.
Today, he continues to challenge telecoms companies who facilitate child abuse material as well as the root causes of social injustice.
In 1983 he began a human rights campaign aimed at closing and converting the US military bases in the Philippines into economic zones. This campaign was successful in 1991 when it freed over a thousand women and children from debt bondage in the sex industry.
But sadly, the US bases are back since 2023 and pose a moral threat to the Filipinos and a challenge to China in its bid to take Taiwan and claim Philippine territorial waters.
The struggle for social justice and freedom for abused children goes on through the Preda Foundation’s children’s homes which provide protection, healing and legal assistance that lead to many court victories for child victims of abuse.
The story tells how Fr Shay and the Preda team continues to provide community education on child rights and operates four therapeutic homes to protect and help the victims of physical and online sexual abuse and human trafficking and pursue justice in the courts, winning an average twenty convictions a year.
Over a thousand children have been healed and empowered since Preda was founded. This is a great story of challenges, court battles and eventual victories.
