Columban Way/Turas Columbanus Annual Walk

May 26, 2022

The Columban Way/Turas Columbanus Annual Walk takes place on Saturday 4th June 2022 from Bunclody in Co Wexford to Myshall in Co Carlow.

This wonderful walk takes a scenic route along quiet country roads and through the forests of the Blackstairs Mountains to the Nine Stones viewing point at Mount Leinster. It continues onwards over the hills to St Columbanus’ home parish of Myshall where the day finishes.

The Columban Way trail follows the footsteps taken by St Columbanus during the 5th & 6th centuries from the Blackstairs Mountains in Co Carlow to Kildare, Laois, Meath, Fermanagh and Bangor in Co Down where he trained.

At the age of 48, St Columbanus travelled to Europe where he founded monasteries in France, Germany, Austria, eventually settling in Bobbio, Italy where he was laid to rest in 615AD.

Walkers are invited to gather at Myshall Community Centre in Co Carlow on Saturday 4th June for registration. The walk starts at 10am and there is a bus transfer to Bunclody.
