Columban missionary Fr Malachy Hanratty, who spent most of his missionary life in Japan, has published a new booklet titled: ‘Luke Helping Us to Listen in Prayer’.

Writing in the Introduction, Fr Malachy explains:
“Vatican II helped this practice of ‘Praying Scripture’ – Lectio Divina – flow out from religious communities to all convinced Christians. In developing and sharing with groups of mostly new Christians in our missionary work in Japan I found it very fruitful. I am also finding it fruitful here in Ireland.”
Elsewhere in his Introduction, Fr Malachy writes:
Vatican II’s object was to rejuvenate the Pilgrim Church in its journeying through the modern world. It reemphasised the fundamental truths that ‘God Loves us First’, that each one is called into a deepening, conscious relationship with Jesus Christ, and into responding to the guidance of God’s Spirit.
