May 28, 2019

The 2019 Columban Schools Journalism awards will be presented this Friday 31st May in Dalgan Park, Navan, Co Meath by climate activist, Dr Lorna Gold.

Dr Gold, who is author of ‘Climate Generation’, will also address those attending the presentation ceremony on the challenge of climate change.

Students will travel from Cork, Limerick, Galway and Dublin to receive their prizes.

The #FridaysforFuture striker and Co-ordinator of Trócaire’s Laudato Si Project is the author of ‘Climate Generation’. She will lead a climate strike at 3.30pm in the grounds of Dalgan Park. The first such strike in Navan, Co Meath.

Inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg’s weekly protests, the global youth climate movement has swept the world in recent months.

Last Friday, thousands of students descended on Dublin to urge the Government to take greater action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. More and more locations in Ireland are joining these weekly protests.

After the climate strike in Dalgan Park, renowned eco theologian, Fr Sean McDonagh will give a short talk on biodiversity and environmental destruction.
