Columbans Meet & Greet at Divine Mercy Conference

Mar 4, 2026

Columban Fathers and members of the Mission Office and the Far East magazine attended the 2026 Divine Mercy Conference in the RDS, Dublin last weekend, writes Fr John McEvoy.

Each year, the conference draws large crowds from all over Ireland to hear powerful talks, participate in uplifting worship, meaningful fellowship, and experience moments of deep encounter with God’s mercy.

This is the first time the Columbans have taken a stand at the conference, which has been going for 35 years.

Led by Mission Office Manager, Ruth Cleary, the Columbans spoke to people about their mission, the Far East magazine and sold many of their shared mass cards.

The Columban stand was colourful and decorated with our missionary banners in the background. The staff – Claire, Breda, Sinead, Evelyn, Sarah and Ruth had plenty of Columban promotional material on display.

They also distributed small promotional bags which were previously prepared by Fr Gerry in the Mission Office. These were handed out by Frs Padraig, John, Jimmy, Dave, Michael and Sean.

An amazing number of people made themselves known to us, many of whom were related to or friends of Columbans down the years. Many told us that their mothers and grandmothers used to get the Far East magazine. Sarah noted that many also recalled the Far East from their school days. Some still asked about Pudsy Ryan!

We were one of about 30 stands displaying and promoting their apostolate at the conference. It was a worthwhile exercise where and new friends were made ad old friends were greeted.
