Columbans participate in World Religion Day

Jan 22, 2021

Michael O’Sullivan, Inter-religious Dialogue (IRD) Co-ordinator for the Irish region, writes about the celebration of World Religion Day which took place on Sunday 17th January 2021.

World Religion Day is an observance that was initiated in 1950 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baháʼís of the United States.

It is celebrated worldwide on the third Sunday in January each year.

World Religion Day has come to be celebrated internationally by followers of the Baháʼí Faith and is marked in Dublin every year by an interfaith prayer event.

For members of the Dublin City Interfaith Forum it is always a great start to our year but of course as with so much else at the moment due to the pandemic we had to move it online.

A different theme is chosen each year and this year’s theme was ‘Generosity’.

Reflections and readings are interspersed with music. You can watch this year’s event here:

You can also find other online interfaith prayers, reflections, and other events on the Dublin City Interfaith Forum channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoSFeOxw4jaKu3nVCjhS8Tw
