Dalgan mourns three Columbans who died over Christmas

Sad news from Dalgan this Christmas with the deaths of Fr Paddy Smyth, Fr Eugene Ryan and Fr Tom Revatto.

Fr Paddy Smyth (’53) was a native of Ballina, Co Mayo. He died on 22nd December in the Mater Private Hospital. He had been ill for quite some time.

Fr Paddy was well known throughout Ireland and elsewhere for directing Retreats. He also was very involved in Nobber Parish in Co Meath and was very popular there.

His Removal Prayer Service will take place on Wednesday 26th December at 7.30pm in Dalgan and his Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 27th Dec at 11am followed by burial in the Community Cemetery.

Fr Eugene Ryan

The sad news of Fr Paddy’s passing was followed by news of the death of Fr Eugene Ryan (’53), who was in the same class as Fr Paddy Smyth.

It was unexpected.

Fr Tom Revatto

Fr Tom Revatto (’48) had a stroke over nine days ago.

Fr Tom spent most of his missionary life in Negros in the Philippines. His funeral will take place on 29th December.
