Dalgan rejoices with its Special Olympics medallist

Jun 21, 2018

A celebratory homecoming awaited Nuala Burns on Wednesday when she returned to Dalgan Park after her success at last weekend’s Special Olympics Ireland Games.

Nuala, who is a member of the catering staff in Dalgan, won two gold medals for Leinster at the games for swimming in backcrawl and relay.

These are not her first medals as she secured a medal at the Special Olympics in North Carolina in swimming in 1999.

Up to 1,600 athletes competed in the Games last weekend across a range of sports in Tallaght Stadium as well as the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown.

Up to 12,000 spectators watched on over the four days of events, from athletics to basketball and equestrian.

The winners at the Special Olympics Ireland Games will compete in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in 2019.

The staff and community at Dalgan are proud of our Olympian and wish Nuala continued success in her preparations for 2019!
