Jewish New Year of the Trees to be marked in Dalgan

Feb 6, 2020

It’s the birthday of trees! On Sunday, members of Dublin City Interfaith Forum will gather in Dalgan Park for a tree planting ceremony to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat.

Tu B’Shvat is occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, which is usually in January or February. It is also called ‘Rosh HaShanah La’Ilanot’, literally ‘New Year of the Trees.’

In contemporary Israel, the day is celebrated as an ecological awareness day, and trees are planted in celebration.

This year the holiday takes place from Sunday, 9 Feb 2020 until Monday 10 Feb 2020.

The Dalgan tree planting ceremony begins at 2pm and will be followed by the tasting of many different fruits and nuts.

Families with children are welcome and encouraged to attend!
