Join us online for Cemetery Sunday

Jun 10, 2020

Each year in June, hundreds of people – relatives, supporters, friends and co-workers of the Columbans – attend the annual Cemetery Sunday Mass in Dalgan Park and the blessing of graves.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Government guidelines on social distancing, this year’s Cemetery Sunday celebrations will not take place in the same way as it has in the past.

Instead it will take place online.

Expressing his and the Columbans’ regret, Fr Raymond Husband, Regional Director in Ireland, commented: “We always look forward to meeting the families and friends of our deceased Columbans, so it is with regret that this year’s blessing of the graves has had to be cancelled.”

However, Fr Husband explained that a Mass for Columban families and friends will available online on 14 June 2020.

Speaking about the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, Fr Husband said: “In this time of lockdown, we in Dalgan are so blessed to have a large college and extensive grounds so we can go out for a walk without worry.”

“My heart goes out to those whose lives have been turned upside down by covid-19. This pandemic has really shaken us to the core and has brought so much pain, suffering and loss to so many people.”

“With God’s help may a cure and vaccine be found to end this plague. In these uncertain times we pray for God’s protection on us all.”
