Training and Formation of a Lay Missionary

The journey to lay mission…

Accompaniment Programme:

Possible candidates will:
– Attend the ‘Discovery Weekend’ programme.
– Avail of spiritual direction.
– Do a regular pastoral placement in their own parishes or community (when necessary).

This will take 6 months to one year before candidates will be accepted into the ‘Orientation Programme’. (Before the end of this programme participants who intend to pursue lay mission will undergo a screening process.)

Note: This programme is also intended for those who simply want to understand their path in life and feel the need for guidance on it.

Orientation Programme:

This is a residential preparatory training course. Accepted candidates will attend a nine-month Orientation Programme before they will be assigned overseas on a cross-cultural mission for an initial three years.

Mission Sending Mass:

Before departing for their cross-cultural placement, Lay Missionaries together with their families and the Columbans and celebrate a Mass at which a sending ceremony will take place.
