Two Columbans will be ordained to the diaconate on Sunday 27 June 2021 by Bishop Honesto Ongtioco of Cubao.
The ordination of deacons Jerry Lohera and Elbert Balbastro will take place at the chapel of the Columban House of Studies in Quezon City in the Philippines.
Jerry is from Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental and Elbert is from Oton, Iloilo. Both joined the Columban seminary formation programme in June 2012. They undertook their two-year First Mission Assignment in Pakistan.
This year, the Philippines is celebrating 500 years of Christianity. In 2019, the Columbans celebrated 90 years of mission in the Philippines. The first Columban priest to arrive in Manila on 30 May 1919 was Fr Michael Cuddigan from Ireland.
