The Columban Centre – A Place of Welcome and Inclusion
Between 2012 and 2024, the Columban Centre in Store Street, Dublin exemplified the Columban Mission priorities of justice, caring for creation, and promoting interfaith dialogue.
The Centre was a collaborative project of the Columban Missionaries in Ireland, between the Columban Fathers, the Columban Sisters, Columban Lay Missionaries and lay workers.
All working in the Columban Centre knew from their overseas mission experiences what it is like to be strangers in a strange land.
They had an understanding of the isolation and frustration that occurs when trying to settle into a new community and a new culture so they offered practical support to those trying to integrate into Irish society.
Through English Classes this Columban project welcomed and helped migrants looking for work and starting new lives in Ireland.
Situated in the heart of the capital, the Columban Centre witnessed the growth in a wide variety of faith and multicultural communities. The staff worked in collaboration with representatives of faith groups to promote dialogue and understanding through collaborative projects celebrating the rich diversity of the city’s different traditions.
